New Partnership To Save Cannabis Retailers Time, Reduce Costs: Here's How The Blaze-Metrc Integration Works

Zinger Key Points
  • Metrc Retail ID labels individual units for easy tracking and compliance.
  • QR codes streamline checkout and direct consumers to detailed product pages.
  • Integration ensures proper sales batch ties, eliminating additional labeling.

BLAZE Solutions, Inc. announced on Tuesday an enhanced integration with Metrc, a provider of cannabis regulatory technology systems in the U.S.

The new integration with Metrc Retail ID supports pre-labeled products from producers and distributors, making inventory intake more efficient for dispensaries.

How It Works

Metrc Retail ID assigns a QR code to each individual unit, streamlining inventory intake and functioning as a barcode for checkout within the BLAZE point-of-sale system. These QR codes also link customers to brand-managed product pages, providing detailed information such as descriptions, lab results and images.

The integration ensures that unit IDs from cannabis brands are properly tied to sales batches. This approach eliminates the need for additional labeling when new product batches are received.

Moreover, it seamlessly handles the merging of packages from the same manufacturing lot.

Time Is Money

"This full integration is a significant time-saver as dispensaries no longer need to commit time, money, and labor to re-label hundreds of products or manually intake them when receiving a duplicate manufacturing lot," BLAZE said in a press release. "It will save thousands of dollars in labeling expenses that are currently the retailer’s responsibility."

Chris Violas, CEO of BLAZE, explained how the integration with Metrc will benefit cannabis retailers managing high inventory volumes.

"By streamlining intake processes and eliminating the need for relabeling, we’re creating unmatched efficiencies that save time and reduce costs," Violas said. "At BLAZE, we’re committed to partnering with industry leaders like Metrc to deliver innovative solutions that not only simplify compliance but also drive profitability for our customers.”

Launched in August to improve the cannabis supply chain, Metrc Retail ID combines advanced software, RFID, customer support and a secure database to track cannabis from growth to sourcing product information directly from Metrc.

“Metrc Retail ID provides the necessary visibility for all industry stakeholders, improving market confidence and consumer safety, while also reducing the associated burdens of product labeling and protecting the reputation and bottom line of cannabis businesses,” Michael Johnson, CEO of Metrc, said in August.
