'Hey Lucid': SoundHound AI Powers Next-Gen Voice Tech In Lucid Air

SoundHound AI, Inc. SOUN saw its shares rise on Thursday following the launch of the Lucid Assistant by Lucid Group, Inc.LCID.

This voice assistant offers Lucid Air owners a new way to control vehicle functions using only their voice, according to a press release.

The assistant responds to the wake words “Hey Lucid,” allowing drivers and passengers to engage in natural, conversational exchanges.

From answering real-time queries about weather, stocks, and sports, to controlling critical vehicle features like navigation, the Lucid Assistant offers an impressive range of capabilities.

Furthermore, it gives users access to the vehicle’s full manual, providing answers to almost any question about the car’s functionality.

The Lucid Assistant is powered by SoundHound’s advanced Chat AI, which integrates the latest generative AI technology, providing a seamless user experience with interactive knowledge discovery, real-time data, and intuitive in-vehicle controls.

SoundHound will showcase the Lucid Assistant at CES, where attendees can experience its functionality in the Lucid Air.

“Developing Lucid Assistant in cooperation with SoundHound enables us to deliver much more than a voice control feature,” said Jean-Philippe Gauthier, Head of Software Engineering at Lucid.

“In combination with Lucid’s frequent over-the-air software updates, Lucid Assistant can grow in functionality and capability over time, delivering an ever-better experience for Lucid owners.”

Lucid’s collaboration with SoundHound aims to create an evolving voice control experience that improves over time through regular software updates.

The system uses a proprietary approach, which minimizes the risk of “AI hallucinations”—misleading responses often associated with other large language models.

Currently available in English, Spanish, French, Arabic, German, and Dutch, the Lucid Assistant promises to enhance the driving experience and revolutionize how drivers interact with their vehicles.

Price Action: LCID shares are trading higher by 1.32% to $3.06 premarket at last check Thursday, while SOUN shares are trading higher by 2.92% to $20.42.
