As quantum computers will be able to conduct more advanced calculations, a major concern is the potential weakness of existing encryption methods.
This partnership will focus on creating quantum-safe cryptographic solutions to safeguard data from the potential decryption threats posed by quantum machines in the future, even though they are not yet operational.
IBM has created quantum-safe solutions, such as IBM Guardium Quantum Safe and IBM Guardium Key Lifecycle Manager, which are designed to fix weaknesses in existing encryption systems.
“It is critical for organizations to begin evaluating their cryptography and planning a transition to quantum-safe standards. At IBM, we are proud not only to have had a hand in the development of new post-quantum cryptography algorithms, but also to be leading the way with new quantum-safe technologies and services,” said Technology Managing Director for Telefónica at IBM, Adolfo Hernández Pulido.

Through this partnership, IBM’s technology will be incorporated into Telefónica Tech’s cybersecurity services, assisting organizations in adopting quantum-safe cryptography standards set by the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).
IBM’s quantum-safe solutions, including IBM Quantum Safe Explorer and IBM Quantum Safe Remediator, will be integrated with Telefónica Tech’s cybersecurity offerings.
The collaboration also involves setting up a use case office dedicated to communications encryption, adapting to emerging cryptographic standards, and securing critical environments.
IBM’s infrastructure has already been deployed at Telefónica’s headquarters, located in Madrid, Spain, to promote business development.
Price Action: IBM shares are trading higher by 9.132% at $249.50 in premarket at the last check Thursday.
