Zoom Invests In Another AI Startup, Expands AI Capabilities In Customer Support Center

Zinger Key Points
  • Zoom will use Anthropic’s chatbot, Claude, which will be integrated into the company's customer support center.
  • Zoom joins a growing list of companies that are working to integrate AI.

Zoom Video Communications Inc ZM announced an investment in artificial intelligence startup Anthropic on Tuesday. The exact dollar amount of the investment was not disclosed in the company’s release. Zoom will use Anthropic’s chatbot, Claude, which will be integrated into the company's customer support center.

This is not Zoom’s first investment into AI. Zoom announced a partnership with ChatGPT's parent company, OpenAI in March. Zoom is using OpenAI’s technology to power its Zoom IQ tools, which can create drafts and whiteboards for users.

Zoom joins a growing list of companies that are working to integrate AI. Alphabet Inc GOOG GOOG, which has also invested in Anthropic, is working to integrate its AI services into Workspace. Google’s stock has been on a run, trading up more than 10% in the last five trading sessions.

Microsoft Corp’s MSFT stock, which is a major investor in OpenAI, is up nearly 30% throughout the last three months. Many investors are looking for ways to get exposure to the AI space. In Pershing Square’s (Bill Ackman’s hedge fund) 13F filing, the company revealed a new billion-dollar investment in Google.

But, AI could come under regulatory scrutiny at some point in the near future. On Tuesday, Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, spoke at a congressional hearing about AI and its economic impact. Some lawmakers are worried that AI will replace workers, with some even calling for a halt to the development of AI.
