Piper Jaffray Gives CES Recap

Piper Jaffray analysts recently attended CES in Las Vegas. The primary theme of the show involves technologies that connect consumers and content on the growing footprint of connected devices. Within Piper Jaffray's coverage, new devices were launched that enable Netflix NFLX streaming and Netflix announced one-button access on many connected CE devices. Various CE makers and other existing Netflix partners announced integration of Watch Instantly on multiple new devices & platforms. While Netflix does not have an official presence at CES, its Watch Instantly service on connected Devices is at the heart of the major theme of the event this year. Rovi ROVI announced a set of entertainment web services called the 'Rovi Media Cloud' that includes the company's advertising, metadata, media recognition, search and recommendations services. Specific to TotalGuide, Rovi announced integration of the technology in Trident Microsystems chips that could be used in TVs and set top boxes and indicated that Samsung will incorporate Rovi's metadata and Rovi advertising capabilities into the Samsung 'Your Video' portal.
