In a report published by Deutsche Bank, the FDA meta-analysis on abacavir will not change much for Gilead Sciences GILD.
Deutsche Bank reported that yesterday, a FDA meta-analysis of risk of myocardial infarction (MI) associated with abacavir was presented at CROI '11. “Recall, abacavir (Ziagen) is used in GSK's Epzicom and Trizivir (competition to Gilead HIV franchise) & has been associated w/ increased risk of MI. The meta-analysis showed no increase in risk of MI w/ abacavir. We believe this will not lead to major changes in use & the FDA will continue to monitor abacavir.”
Gilead Sciences closed yesterday at $38.98.
