Baird Equity Research pointed out that the new Pixel phone would have a complete Google Assistant and Daydream VR, possibly giving it a competitive edge against the iPhone 7. Pixel comes with advanced processor of QUALCOMM, Inc. QCOM's Snapdragon and provides rapid charging capabilities. DxOMark, a camera analyst and ratings provider, gave the highest rating to Pixel's camera.
Analysts Colin Sebastian and Benjamin Gaither think the latest move is based on the success enjoyed by Nexus and the Android OS. They also believe the search engine flexed its ML/AI capabilities to fit into the scheme of Pixel very well.
The brokerage elaborated, "Google Assistant leverages long-term focus on artificial intelligence and machine learning. Google's virtual assistant continues to evolve from underlying core search and knowledge graph (70 billion facts), recently extended to Allo messaging app, and now to new Pixel phones and Home smart devices."
Baird thinks the search engine's capabilities on ML/AI are the key differentiator with its rivals. Although the firm thinks there is restricted impact from the new devices on the top line, the brokerage expects ML/AI apps improvement with the help of generated data from the use.
As far as Daydream VR, the analysts think it offers developers tools to distribute content extensively. According to the analysts, the company made the right decision for a dedicated VR and AR platform.
The brokerage maintains its Outperform rating and $900 target price.
