Comcast Corporation CMCSA is frequently rumored to on one end or the other of an acquisition, and BTIG suggested Thursday that it may now be looking to purchase Charter Communications, Inc. CHTR.
“We believe Comcast has unique opportunity to make a transformative acquisition given current regulatory landscape,” analyst Rich Greenfield wrote.
The firm identified possible targets in Charter, Verizon Communications Inc. VZ, Walt Disney Co DIS, Netflix, Inc. NFLX, T-Mobile US Inc TMUS and Snap Inc SNAP.
“We think most compelling Hail-Mary would be CHTR, even if regulatory approval odds are at best 50 percent,” Greenfield wrote.
Charter, which purchased Time Warner Cable and Bright House Networks in 2016, has long been eyed as a possible acquisition target, with chatter generally involving Verizon.
Comcast was trading up 1.4 percent and Charter 0.9 percent at the time of publication.
