Microsoft Corp.'s MSFT CEO Satya Nadella won plenty of praise for his deft handling of the OpenAI drama. Now, Wedbush's Dan Ives has called Nadella a "torch bearer" of the AI revolution alongside the "godfather" of AI, Nvidia Corp.'s NVDA Jensen Huang.
What Happened: Ives continued to sound a bullish note on Microsoft's prospects going into 2024, as the AI arms race heats up post the launch of Google Gemini.
"Nadella is the torch bearer of the global AI Revolution along with the Godfather of AI Jensen and Nvidia," Ives said.
He added that following the drama in November, OpenAI is now in "stronger hands". Sam Altman has returned as the CEO of OpenAI, and Microsoft has addressed what some deemed a misstep by obtaining a position on the AI company’s board.
"OpenAI now in stronger hands; stage set for a bullish 2024," Ives added.
During the peak of the OpenAI drama, Nadella made a surprise announcement, revealing that Altman will lead a new AI research division at Microsoft along with former OpenAI president Greg Brockman.
While Altman eventually returned to OpenAI as its CEO, Ives hailed Nadella's decision and said it is "music to the ears of investors."

Why It Matters: Ives' praise for Nadella comes at a time when the AI race is heating up. Following numerous speculations, rival Alphabet Inc.'s GOOG GOOGL Google debuted its new AI model Gemini.
According to AI benchmarks, Gemini's ‘Ultra' version is currently the closest challenger to OpenAI's GPT-4, beating it in several crucial comparisons.
However, while Google says more AI features will be integrated progressively into its apps and services going forward, Microsoft has already integrated OpenAI's GPT-4 and Dall-E 3 technology into several of its apps and services, including Office and Windows.
More recently, Microsoft brought Copilot to everyone on Windows 11, and began rolling out a preview for Windows 10 users.
