3 Stocks For Baseball Season (NKE, BUD, SMG)

Baseball season is fully upon on us, and that means many different things to many different fans. The Yankees are battling the Red Sox for supremacy in the AL East, the Pittsburgh Pirates are looking at another 90 loss season, and the Chicago Cubs are wondering whether this is the year they finally break the 100+ year curse, and win a World Series. There's nothing more American, then going out to the ball game, buying some peanuts and cracker jacks, and not caring if you ever come back. Of course, if you do come back, you'll have to earn some money, and these three stocks may help you do just that, while you root, root, root for the home team. Nike NKE supplies cleats, gloves, batting gloves, uniforms and other team apparel for every Major League Baseball club. As a true fan, you have to wear the gear to support your team, whether it's Cardinal red, Dodger blue, or White Sox black. Nike benefits when you open your wallet or purse for the apparel, and as the weather gets warmer, sales of baseball gear and apparel should begin to pick up. The stock currently sports a 1.6% dividend yield, and trades at 17 times forward earnings. Anheuser-Busch InBev BUD sells Budweiser beer, and is the official beer of Major League Baseball. Having a beer, smelling the fresh cut green grass, and enjoying the warm sun isn't a bad way to spend an afternoon, and Budweiser is there to help you enjoy it. Shares of Anheuser-Busch InBev trade at 14.6 times 2012 earnings, sport a 1.5% dividend yield, and have a price to earnings growth ratio of 1.18, according to Yahoo Finance. You've got your apparel, you've got your beer, now what's gonna help with the fresh cut green grass? Scotts Miracle Gro SMG of course, which makes lawn fertilizers, and crabgrass controls. Shares of Scotts Miracle Gro have a 1.7% dividend yield, and trade at 14 times 2012 earnings, not bad for a company that has a 1.58 price to earnings growth ratio. Scotts Miracle Gro also gets caught up in the agriculture trade, and should benefit as farmers look to continue to increase yields of their crops. If your home team doesn't win it's a shame, but at least these three names will give your portfolio a chance to win. If not, then it's one, two, three strikes they're out.
