Claire Berlinski, Ed.: What al Qaeda Did to Istanbul

On Saturday morning, November 15, 2003, a suicide bomber exploded his car outside the Neve Shalom synagogue in Istanbul, Turkey. Only local Muslims sitting outside were killed. It was al-Qaeda's first operation in Turkey, soon followed by two more attacks the following week.

David Gross--my ex--took these photos. It happened two blocks from where we lived, and blew out the windows of our apartment. I wasn't there, but even quite some time afterwards, he found it difficult to walk down that street.
