Fred's April Comparable Store Sales up 1.8%

Fred's Inc. FRED today reported sales for the four-week fiscal month of April, which ended April 30, 2011. Fred's total sales for the month increased 3% to $141.8 million from $137.5 million in April 2010. Comparable store sales for the month rose 1.8% versus an increase of 0.6% in the same period last year. Fred's total sales for the first three months of fiscal 2011 increased 3% to $484.4 million compared with $471.6 million for the same period last year. On a comparable store basis, year-to-date sales increased 1.0% on top of a 2.2% increase for the year-earlier period.
