Square Launches Cash Register Killer

At TechCrunch Disrupt, payments processor Square has just announced what many are calling the "cash register killer." The company, led by CEO Jack Dorsey, just announced Square Register, which will replace those bulky and expense cash registers and point of sale terminals. The company is also launching the Square Card Case, which will give customers a way to access local merchants. Square, which has been one of the hottest technology startups for quite a while, just recently raised $27.5 million in new funding. Visa V also made a strategic investment in the company. The company is doing over $3 million in payment processing a week, and could break the $1 billion in transaction amount a year from now. Square's COO Keith Rabois told TechCrunch about the new iPad app, the Square Register, and how merchants and consumers needed a more effective way to process transactions, and build relationships with each other.
