8.5M Raised for Breast Cancer Research in 12 Years of the Morgan Pressel Fight Cancer Tournament

BOCA RATON, Fla., Jan. 10, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Morgan Pressel's 12th Annual Morgan & Friends Fight Cancer Golf Tournament once again raised $1M for breast cancer research, increasing the twelve year total to $8.5M. The funds raised were entirely through the generosity of Pressel's fellow members at St. Andrews Country Club and various sponsors of the Morgan Pressel Foundation. LPGA Tour stars were the highlight of the two day event and included Paula Creamer, Lexi Thompson, So Yeon Ryu, Brittany Lincicome, Gerina Piller, Brooke Henderson and Julie Inkster. A surprise addition to the golf line-up was country music star Colt Ford, a former PGA tour player.

The Morgan Pressel Foundation supports the Boca Raton Regional Hospital, Kathryn Krickstein Pressel MammoVan, Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center and the Morgan Pressel Center for Cancer Genetics facility at Boca Raton Regional Hospital. Funds raised last year purchased a brand new mammovan which boasts the same high-tech equipment used by most hospitals. The Kathryn Krickstein Pressel MammoVan makes mammogram screening more accessible by bringing breast cancer screening to areas throughout Palm Beach County.

Each year the Morgan & Friends Fight Cancer Golf Tournament is featured on the Golf Channel with host Gary Williams broadcasting live from the St. Andrews CC golf performance center. This year was no different with Williams interviewing Pressel who tearfully spoke about how much the annual event means to her and how appreciative she is of her fellow members and LPGA friends for their participation and support.

The tournament is a tribute to Morgan's mother, the late Kathryn Krickstein Pressel, who lost her battle to breast cancer when Morgan was only 15. "I am overwhelmed by what we have accomplished since the inception of the event." said Pressel. "The generous support of everyone involved is truly moving and to know our efforts are helping the community is inspiring. I am very thankful for the support of my fellow members and my LPGA friends for their participation year after year."

The event kicked off on Sunday evening with an exclusive dinner and silent and live auctions. Monday morning, winning bidders play holes with an LPGA star. The groups are followed by hundreds of members and media. The morning golf event is followed by an incredible golf exhibition put on by Morgan & her Friends, entertaining more than 300 club members with anecdotes about their careers, hitting shots and sharing tips with the members.

Steve Irwin, President of the Board of Governors of St. Andrews Country Club commented "This event is now its 12th year and still manages to impress me with Morgan's dedication to raising funds to fight breast cancer. She, along with the Morgan Pressel Committee and our St. Andrews staff put together an extraordinary event. Consistent with years past, the generosity of our membership together with Morgan and the committee have raised $1M for this cause. I am very proud of the manner in which our community supports the fight against breast cancer."

The tournament was played on both the Arnold Palmer Signature Design Course® and the Fazio II Course. The Fazio II Course was part of a $25 million Club Improvement Plan which covered a three year improvement and expansion that was completed in its entirety in November 2018. In addition to the new Fazio II Course, St. Andrews Country Club built an 11,000 sq. ft. free standing Spa & Salon and complete renovation and expansion of the Fitness & Tennis Center which now includes two pickleball courts and state-of-the art fitness equipment.

Craig D. Martin, Chief Operating Officer and General Manager at St. Andrews Country Club said, "We are proud of Morgan, her foundation and all of the St. Andrews Country Club members for putting together another first-class golf tournament and fund raising effort. I've been honored to watch this event grow into the success it is today. The professionalism and five-star logistics executed by the Morgan Pressel Foundation and our professional staff continues to impress me and all those who participate in this exclusive member-only event."
