Cable Companies Concerned Over Google's Motorola Acquisition

The cable industry is closely watching Google's GOOG acquisition of Motorola Mobility Holdings MMI, the largest supplier of set-top cable boxes. Concerns over privacy and net-neutrality issues are foremost on cable operators minds as the purchase will mean Google will now have immediate access to millions of their customers. "If they have a box in the majority of U.S. homes, there's going to be a need to ensure that privacy isn't abused," said one cable executive." Comcast CMCSA and Time Warner Cable TWC, the two largest U.S. cable providers, use Motorola cable boxes.
