Blueshift Ideas Negative On Monsanto

Blueshift Ideas is out with a series of tweets discussing Monsanto MON and its products for crops, and is mostly negative. Blueshift says that Monsanto's SmartStax corn seeds are "performing in line with other corn seed brands, but costs more per bag and yield not expected to surpass other varieties." Blueshift said that Monsanto's "Roundup Ready 2 soybeans were viewed more favorably than its SmartStax." The San Francisco-based research firm also said that Roundup Ready-resistant weeds have begun to drive up farmers' costs. Either the fields have to pre-treated, or additional weed killer has to be applied. Lastly, Blueshift said that Monsanto's "SmartStax's poor yield in the 2010 growing season was the primary reason 6 of our 11 farmer sources did not plant the seed in 2011." At last check, shares of Monsanto were up 23 cents to $70.01.
