Ice Cream Sandwich Melts Away at the Sight of a Photo

If you thought facial recognition was cool, wait till you see what photo recognition can do! SoyaCincau (via TechCrunch) has uncovered an interesting feature in the beta version of Ice Cream Sandwich, the long-awaited next-gen version of Google GOOG Android. In addition to being able to use your own face to unlock the phone, users can now hold up a photo to accomplish the same task. While this might sound like a feature that is both useless and harmless, the reality is that some people prefer to keep their phone secure in case it is lost or stolen. With facial recognition, Android could have provided users with the most potent security around. But now that we know that consumers only need a photo to unlock the phone, it seems that this mobile OS may not be secure at all (unless, of course, you stick with an old-fashioned pass code). Since this is the beta version, future Ice Cream Sandwich users might not have anything to worry about. That's the hope, at least. Follow me @LouisBedigian
