WellPoint Inc. WLP chief executive Angela Braly has admonished the president for a fabricated remark about the insurer’s coverage of breast-cancer patients. This weekend, the president said that his administration asked an insurer to stop discriminating against breast cancer patients. Although he did not name the insurer, the WellPoint (WLP) CEO has claimed that the remark was clearly directed at her company. According to The Wall Street Journal, WellPoint spokesperson Kristin Binns said that WellPoint is the only insurer that the administration and news media have pointed to on the subject. The company CEO has sent a letter to the president stating, “To be absolutely clear: Despite your claims, WellPoint does not single out women with breast cancer for rescission. Period."
