5 Things Carney Should Do At CNBC.com

The news that blogger John Carney would be joining CNBC.com as Senior Editor got me thinking about some of the possibilities for the site.

I came up with these fairly simple suggestions...

1.  Post the track records of each stockpicker/forecaster as they appear on CNBC TV.  Even if it's only a record of what they've said on the network before.

2.  Give Dennis Kneale a blog (KnealeThoughts?).  The wounds have healed from the Kneale vs Bloggers War last year.  Let's give the man who has an opinion on everything a chance to flesh his thoughts out online.  Maybe we're not so different, he and us.  Or maybe we are.  Either way, I guarantee there would be tons of incoming links.

3.  Add the StockTwits stream to at least each stock quote page if not the homepage itself.  I know I'm the from the home team on this one but the fact that StockTwits is the best real-time market commentary extant cannot be denied.  And the site's visitors would love it.

4.  Small and mid caps get short shrift as far as TV coverage, which is not surprising.  You only have so many hours a day and the widely-held stocks are what most people tune in for.  That said, with a website you have a lot more room to talk about up-and-coming stocks and companies.

5.  Diversity of opinion is a no-brainer.  One of the things that Carney did well at Clusterstock was taking the unpopular view on many issues.  CNBC.com would benefit from having commentators who aren't always in the mainstream of opinion or aligned with Corporate/ Wall Street culture.

Anyway, should be interesting to see what he comes up with.  I like the video clips on CNBC.com but other than that, I really don't find myself on that site for much else.  Maybe he can change that.
