Stocks Slammed In Final Hour (JPM, AA, AAPL)

The Dow fell 113 points, or 1.1%, to close at 10,024. Most of the losses came in the final hour of trading. The tech-heavy Nasdaq shed 35 points, or 1.54%, to close at 2.222. The S&P tumbled 19 points, or 1.7%, to finish at 1,071. Market participants returned from an extended holiday weekend to face the same problematic themes: the state of Europe's finances, slower growth in China, and the inability of BP to stop the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Financial names struggled as JP Morgan JPM shed $1.04, or 2.63%, to close at $38.54. Cyclical names also sold off hard, with Alcoa AA shedding 45 cents, or 3.87%, to close at $11.19. Stocks once again lacked leadership, though Apple AAPL was steady all session and finished with a gain or $3.95, ot 1.54%, to finish at $260.83.
