From Microsoft's MSFT Steve Balmer:
Craig Mundie's & Eric Rudder's New Roles
Craig Mundie is taking on a new role as a Senior Advisor to me.
Craig has spent the last six years as Microsoft's Chief Research
and Strategy Officer - a role he was appointed to when Bill
Gates retired. In his new role, Craig will continue his work
with governments and policymakers around the world, and will
additionally work closely with me and other SLT members on key
strategic projects. Craig, who celebrated his 20th anniversary
at Microsoft this month, plans to retire in 2014 after he turns
65.
Eric Rudder has taken on several of Craig's groups over the past
year and will now complete the transition by reporting directly
to me and taking on full line responsibility for Microsoft
Research, Trustworthy Computing, and the Technology Policy
Group. Rick Rashid, Scott Charney and David Tennenhouse will join Amit Mital, KD Hallman and Wolfram Schulte in reporting to
Eric, effective immediately. David Pritchard and his team will
continue to report to Craig.
Over his career, Craig has brought great value to the groups and
initiatives he has started and overseen and now brings that
wealth of experience to his new role. Throughout his Microsoft
career Craig's been closely connected with MSR. The
establishment of Trustworthy Computing changed how Microsoft and
the entire computer industry thinks about security and privacy
and the Technology Policy Group continues to help shape the
long-term technology-policy landscape in ways that will give our
future products a clear path in the marketplace. Craig has also
been instrumental in building relationships with governments and
policymakers around the world.
I look forward to working with Eric on a broader scope of the
company's businesses and partnering closely with Craig on the
company's future opportunities.
Steve
