Late Market Roundup

The technology stocks gained today after losing in the early morning trading. The sector made an effort to close H1 in the positive territory. The NASDAQ Composite Index (COMP) gained 0.4% after falling about 4% yesterday. NASDAQ has lost 5.4% in the first half of 2010. The stocks that posted gains in the sector were SanDisk Corp SNDK, Research In Motion Inc RIMM and Microsoft Corp MSFT. Shares of American International Group Inc AIG and Citigroup Inc C posted gains today, as they recovered from yesterday’s losses. AIG’s shares moved up about 2% after the former executive Joseph Cassano testified before the Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission. Shares of most gold and silver mining companies moved up after analysts at UBS AG UBS raised their price target on gold and silver mining companies. The stocks that gained were Iamgold Corp IAG and Barrick Gold Corp ABX. Some US metals and miners whose targets were raised were Cott Corp COT, Eldorado Gold Corp EGO, Goldcorp Inc GG and Agnico-Eagle Mines Ltd AEM. Campbell Soup Co CPB has planned to sell $400 million in debt. According to Informa Global Markets, the company is likely to price the debt today. As mentioned by CPB in a regulatory filing, the proceeds from the sale of the 7-year debt would be used for general corporate purposes, such as repaying commercial paper or "funding all or a portion of the purchase price of any acquisition.” Read more from Benzinga's Markets.
