Microsoft's Xbox One Offers 'More Exciting Exclusive Games' Than Sony's PlayStation 4

Microsoft MSFT has received a fair amount of complaints for choosing to design Xbox One to interfere with the way users play, sell and share their games.

In the days after Xbox One was unveiled, consumers looked to Sony SNE to see if it would copy Microsoft's strategy and apply strict DRM (digital rights management) features to PlayStation 4. When the company announced that it would not impose any restrictions, consumers were thrilled.

Thus, it should not come as too big of a surprise to learn that three PlayStation 4 units are being pre-ordered for every two units of Xbox One.

PlayStation 4 will also sell for $100 less than Xbox One, making it a much more attractive console to cost-conscious consumers.

While the console will receive a number of exclusives, including new games in the Killzone and Infamous series, Credit Suisse analysts are currently convinced that Xbox One has the better lineup.

"We believe Xbox One clearly offers a more exciting lineup of exclusive games versus PS4, including games Ryse: Son of Rome, Dead Rising 3, Titanfall, Quantum Break, Project Spark, and the next addition to the Halo franchise due in early 2014," Credit Suisse wrote in its report.

Thus far, consumers do not seem to agree.

While many GameStop GME locations have sold out of their initial Xbox One pre-order allotment, investors should wonder how many of those early adopters are fully aware of the console's restrictions. Instead of talking about them during the press conference (or within YouTube trailers, where most consumers see and hear about new software for the first time), Microsoft is turning to the media to get the word out.

With regard to Nintendo's (OTC Pink: NTDOY) ill-fated console, Wii U, Credit Suisse does not believe that it will "maintain the ~40% share that the company held in the Wii/Xbox 360/PS3 cycle."
