American Express AXP reported that its Q2 net income attributable to shareholders was $1 billion compared to $102 million in the year ago period. On an earnings per share basis, income was $0.84. This beat analysts' expectations of $0.78.
Total revenues after interest expense came in at $6.859 billion, which was a 13% increase from the $6.092 billion the company reported in the second quarter of 2009. Analysts had anticipated AXP would report revenue of $6.84 billion. In the after hours trading session, AXP has fallen 1.37% to $42.60. During the regular market session, the stock gained nearly 5% and closed at $43.19.
