Goldman Sachs Bans Profanity in its E-Mails (GS)

The Wall Street Journal is reporting this morning that Goldman Sachs Group GS has told its employees that profanity will no longer be allowed in any company electronic messages, IMs, etc. This ban is all encompassing, including the company’s 34,000 traders, investment bankers, and other GS employees. A Goldman spokeswoman said: "Of course we have policies about the use of appropriate language and we are always looking for ways to ensure that they are enforced." There is currently no written directive specifying which profane words are now officially due for reprimand, but GS is saying that screening tools are now being used by the firm to detect common swear words and acronyms.
