Staples to Start Selling Amazon's Kindle (SPLS, AMZN)

Office supply company Staples Inc. SPLS said Tuesday that it will begin selling Amazon.com's AMZN Kindle e-book at its retail stores. Staples will be selling multiple versions of the e-book, and is expected to push them into 1,500 stores across the country this fall. Staples will offer the $139 version, the 3G model, and the more expensive Kindle DX. According to a Reuters report, "Amazon, the world's largest online retailer, has sought to make its Kindle available at more stores as it competes with devices such as Barnes & Noble Inc.'s BKS Nook and Apple Inc.'s AAPL iPad to win a larger share of the growing digital books market." Amazon already worked out a deal to sell the device in Target Stores TGT. Shares of Amazon and Staples are both up 1% this afternoon, to $125.10 and $17.82, respectively.
