Target To Sell Facebook Credit Gift Cards At Stores Next Week (TGT)

Target TGT will be offering Facebook Credits at their brick-and-mortar stores starting September 5. The credits, which are available as $15, $25, and $50 gift cards, allow users to buy applications for the social networking page, as well as items for games available on Facebook. Facebook estimates more than 200 million people play games on Facebook every month. The $15 card is exclusive to Target, according to the retailer, which indicates that other retailers will begin stocking the gift cards as well. “With social gaming becoming increasingly popular, Facebook Credits gift cards provide an easy and convenient option for Target guests to purchase virtual goods,” said Target’s Senior Vice President of Merchandising Mark Schindele in a statement. The credits could eventually become a healthy revenue stream for Facebook not related to advertising, as 30% of Facebook Credit sales are cut out for the company. However, it plans to reinvest revenues from the credit sales back into their virtual currency system in the near term.
