Commodities Flying Higher Today (BHP, SLB, AA, FCX)

Commodity stocks are higher today, led by a rebound in August durable goods and surging commodity prices. Shares of BHP Billiton BHP are up over 2% today to trade at $75.71, a gain of $1.65. BHP Billiton is a diversified natural resources company in Australia, the Americas, and southern Africa. Schlumberger N.V. SLB is up over 4% on a rebound in the price of crude oil. At last check crude oil, was finally over the $76/barrel mark. Shares of SLB are up 4.7% to $60.84, a gain of $2.73. Schlumberger supplies technology, integrated project management, and information solutions to the oil and gas industry. Alcoa, Inc. AA is up 4% to $12.22, a gain of 48 cents. Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold FCX is up 3% today to $86.76, a gain of $2.53 on a surge in gold and copper prices. Earlier, gold hit the $1,300 an ounce mark, and copper is firmly over $3.60 per pound.
