Report: Yahoo, Microsoft Pitching Apple To Be Default Search Engine In Safari Browser

Google Inc's GOOG exclusive rights to be the default search engine within Apple Inc.'s AAPL Safari browser may soon end. The Information reported that Google's deal to be the primary search engine is up for renewal in early 2015 and at least two other companies are vying for the coveted spot. Up for grabs is the default search setting across tens of millions of iPhone, iPad, iPod, iMac and Mac devices. Executives from Yahoo! Inc. YHOO and Microsoft Corporation MSFT have already approached Apple's Senior Vice President of Internet Software and Services Eddy Cue to win a contract and have their respective search engine being the default choice. Thus far, Microsoft may appear to hold the upper hand as its Bing is already the default search engine for Siri, although nothing is finalized yet and there is no timeframe on when a decision will be made.
