Report: Tesla In Soft Launch Of Pre-Owned Vehicles

Tesla Motors Inc TSLA may be in the midst of a soft launch for its used-car business.

In a development that is apparently separate from pre-owned vehicles, Tesla' Chief Executive Elon Musk said via Twitter on Sunday that the company plans an announcement concerning "range anxiety" about its Model S. Fleet.

Tesla said in October it was working on a plan to offer certified pre-owned Model S cars. Its website currently has a page devoted to its sales, although autos apparently are currently unavailable.

Clean Technica reported Monday on a recent posting on a Tesla-sponsored Motor Club forum by a member who claimed to have purchased a certified, pre-owned Tesla Model S on February 20.

Clean Technica said the pre-owned Model S was said to be purchased for $75,000 with a warranty covering six years, or 10,000 miles from the purchase date, according to the posting.

The purchaser claimed to take delivery of the vehicle at Tesla's Paramus, New Jersey, showroom.

Direct sales of vehicles by Tesla are currently banned in New Jersey.

A state Senate committee there approved a rule to allow direct customer purchases earlier this month. The bill is under consideration by the full senate.

Tesla changed hands recently at $190.26, up 0.8 percent.
