Students, professional investors and industry CEOs will come together on March 26 and 27 for ENGAGE 2015 International Investment Education Symposium. Scheduled to take place at Wayne State University, the conference is poised to be the can't-miss event of the year. Read on to see why.
1. It's The Largest Event Of Its Kind
"It will be the largest student investment conference in the world in 2015, right here in Detroit," said David Kudla, executive director of ENGAGE 2015 and CEO & CIO of Mainstay Capital Management.
2. It's A Professional Event
Kudla said that the first day will look like any professional conference that an investor may attend. It starts with an intro by Kudla and Wayne State President M. Roy Wilson, followed by an interview between CNBC Senior Economics Reporter Steve Liesman and Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta President and CEO Dennis P. Lockhart.
Liesman will then moderate a panel with Jerry A. Webman, chief economist at Oppenheimer; Jeff Kleintop, chief global strategist at Charles Schwab; and Mark Okada, co-founder and chief investment officer of Highland Capital Management.
"It's an all-star list for any professional conference," said Kudla. "And we'll have professionals, college students, high school students -- all on the first day."
3. Students Can Show Off Their Skills
ENGAGE 2015 will allow students to flex their investing muscles.
"The portfolio competition [focuses on] the risk-adjusted return of a portfolio over the previous calendar year," Kudla explained. "Schools enter in different categories, then we'll have a grand-prize winner with the best risk-adjusted return overall."
There will also be a stock pitch tournament.
"[It] is interesting because we do it all at the conference," said Kudla. "There's a screening of teams to select 12 that will be the first live round. The second round will happen on Friday morning. And the third round and final round, will include Bill Miller [of LMM], and a few of the traders from the trading desk on CNBC's 'Halftime Report' as the final round judges of the stock pitch competition. Some of those students may appear on CNBC that day when the 'Halftime Report' show is broadcast live from ENGAGE."
