3D Systems Corp DDD, the leader in three-dimensional printing, recently announced the release of their mobile iSense 3D scanner for Apple Inc AAPL's iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. iSense, which has been previously available for iPad, is a popular 3D scanning tool which allows users to capture, edit, and print 3D images quickly and easily.
Design features
As with the iPad, iSense for iPhone features image capture technology developed by Occipital and interfaces with the 3D systems software app for image editing and processing. The iSense scanner attaches easily to the back of the iPhone via a custom case designed by Cubify, a division of 3D Systems.
Software features
In addition to cropping and image enhancement, iSense allows owners of Cubify’s Cube 3D printer, which retails for around $1,000, to print scanned 3D images either at home or by cloud through the iSense software interface. A new version of the iSense app, iSense 2.0, will also be available for free upon the launch of iSense for iPhone. iSense 2.0 features improved auto-tracking, up to three times faster scan speeds, and texture mapping, which allows for full-color vibrancy. Average scan times with the new app are 5 to 30 seconds.
Release Details
iSense is the only portable 3D scanning software available for iOS devices. iSense for iPhone is scheduled for release on July 7, 2015 and can be preordered on Cubify.com for $499 or purchased in store at B&H Photo and BestBuy for the same price. The iSense 2.0 app will be available for download from the iOS app store.
