XpoLog Wants To Find Out What's Hiding In Your Log Data

Benzinga recently had the chance to speak with Haim Koschitzky, CEO of analytic search technology company XpoLog about the company’s data log search products. Mr. Koschitzky discussed the types of insights that customers can gain from log file searches, XpoLog’s integration with major cloud service providers and XpoLog’s unique “auto-detect intelligence” algorithms.

Searching log files
When Benzinga asked about what types of insights customers can gain from log searches, Koschitzky explained that there is a wide range of helpful information that can be extracted from log data. “In a growing application economy, log data contains not only diagnostics information, but also trends and statistics about usage, and information about hidden errors, bugs and other problems.”

Koschitzky also discussed the security benefits of effective log data use. “From a security perspective, you can get information about log-ins, log-outs and a variety of anomalies in the log data.”

Cloud integration
XpoLog can integrate with existing cloud accounts to index log data, scan events, and tag each event with a severity level or error message. In addition XpoLog has the capability to search, troubleshoot and generate reports and visualizations.

So far, XpoLog has integration with Amazon.com Inc AMZN’s and Google Inc GOOGGOOGL’s cloud infrastructure, but Koschitzky anticipates additional integrations with other leading cloud providers in coming months.

Machine learning analytics
Koschitzky reiterated that the true benefit to XpoLog’s technology goes beyond simply searching log data. According to Koschitzky, XpoLog’s mathematical model and its massive library of log data are the keys to its “machine learning analytics.”

“When you search manually, you don’t really know what you’re going to search for, especially with IT systems and applications. The guys that are doing the support don’t really know what is going on—they are trying to understand what is going on. When you search on Google, you’d never go and look on the 10th page, but when you search log data, you get millions of results sometimes.” For these reasons, Koschitzky told Benzinga that the “auto-detect intelligence” incorporated into XpoLog’s products allows for much faster and informative searches than a simple, manual search.
