Tesla Motors Inc TSLA CEO, Elon Musk, was recently interviewed by CNBC regarding what he thinks will be driving the growth for the company in the future. Musk also discussed about the SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket explosion. Here is what he said.
Tesla
Musk was asked what will drive Tesla's next leg of growth. He replied, "Well, I think it's going to be the Model X. With the Model X there's a potential to double [...] Tesla's volume because the demand for SUVs and sedans is about equal. That would suggest that if the Model X is well received it would be a doubling of Tesla's volume."
On any updates regarding the Model X, Musk said, "No, I think, everything is pretty much the same as [...] when I gave the Tesla shareholder conference which is that we expect to sort of ship at the end of summer and then the really big question which we don't know the answer to right now is whether, it's how long it will take us to [ramp] that production."
Falcon 9 Explosion
"I think, we need to understand exactly what went wrong," Musk said. "Know what needs to be done to fix it and then watch. We will be very deliberate about. We want to look at [...] also take a thorough review of the data and see if there were any near misses, could they may have been something else that [might have] went wrong and what we need to fix that. Our goal is to have the most reliable rocket ever because obviously this is going to be launching astronauts in a couple of years."
