Behavior Profiles Could Be The Latest Weapon In The Cybersecurity Battle

One of the hottest topics in corporate America is cybersecurity. Several high profile attacks over the past few years have brought big name companies like Target Corp TGT, Home Depot HD and Sony Corp SNE to their knees. The rise in cybercrime has caused many CEOs to invest in advanced security programs, but most analysts agree that hackers appear to be one step ahead of cybersecurity professionals. However, a new field that looks to embrace the uniqueness of each network user could be the answer in eliminating cybersecurity breaches. Behavior Profiles A new type of cybersecurity uses an individual's online behavior to create a profile of their actions. Everything from the way they swipe their smartphone screen to the pace at which they read and type is taken into account to build a unique profile that the security system can recognize. That way, when that user's behavior changes, the security system can identify the threat. Hard To Mimic The behavior from one person to another online is vastly different, especially when several different metrics are taken into account. Security experts say it is very difficult to mimic the behavior of a particular individual, making behavioral security systems much safer than firms' typical password protected access. Hard To Create However, while the systems are hard to hack, they are also difficult to create. Startups like Biocatch, which promise the ability to use a variety of metrics to create individual user profiles and protect company networks, are gaining notoriety as their systems emerge as some of the safest on the market. Biocatch has already received $11.6 million in funding over three rounds as interest in the new security system continues to grow.
