- Shares of T-Mobile US Inc TMUS have gained more than 50 percent year-to-date.
- T-Mobile's eccentric and outspoken CEO John Legere went on a Twitter rant on Monday, calling out his competitors.
- Legere said his competitors are "sitting on top of piles of your $$," referencing overage charges that his company abolished.
Back in May 2014, T-Mobile introduced its Simple Choice Plan. Customers under the plan would no longer be charged domestic overage fees that exceeded their plan.
"We believe that overage fees are flat-out wrong," T-Mobile said in a blog post at that time. "So, as of May 1, 2014, we've eliminated them. We already don't charge overage fees for customers on our Simple Choice Plan, but we now extend freedom from overages to anyone on our older plans for domestic calls, texts, and data usage."
On Monday morning, Legere tweeted:
Hmm… I think our competitors need a little wake-up call this Monday… what do you think? #AbolishOverages

Legere followed up and said in a second tweet: "Both @att and @verizon announced earnings and guess what? They touted their results all while sitting on top of piles of your $$."
He also pointed out a change.org petition calling for carriers to abolish overage charges. It has been signed by over 330,000 people.

Several tweets later, Legere said that the company will fly a T-Mobile plane over Verizon Communication Inc. VZ's headquarters to deliver the message of #abolisheoverages.
