MySpace CEO Mike Jones spoke with FOX Business Network's (FBN) Connell McShane about the company's new partnership with Facebook and their focus on “music entertainment content.”
On whether MySpace and Facebook collaborating on Mashup means they are no longer competitors:
“We are no longer competing. MySpace is focused specifically on social entertainment.”
On his vision for MySpace:
“We want to be best in social entertainment. One of the big changes we are seeing is people are interacting with MySpace via mobile so a third of our daily audience today uses MySpace via mobile phones and we expect that to grow dramatically.”
On the response from users:
“In August we launched a product called Sync with Facebook. We have had a million users sign up for it so far. Initially we had really great response and we think this new implementation is actually going to be even bigger.”
On whether MySpace couldn't compete with Facebook or they are simply moving in a new direction:
“MySpace has deep roots with music entertainment content. We saw a big change in the way people were using the MySpace product and we had to embrace that and we had to create a new entertainment product that really played to our users interests.”
On whether this partnership is an indicator that MySpace might be sold:
“News Corp is very committed to this business. They love the strategy. They have been working with us on this turn. It is very difficult and a huge challenge to turn a business of this size.”
On whether MySpace has other partnerships in the works:
“Not that we are announcing today, but we are looking for any ways that we can allow users to create a more personal experience on MySpace. And if we can do that with partners we are excited to do it.”
