US Stock Futures Point Lower Start On Wall Street As Koreans Exchange Fire

US stock futures are lower, this morning after exchange of artillery fire between North and South Korea. Futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 74 points, or 0.7%, to 11,091, while S&P 500 futures dropped 10 points, or 0.8%, to 1,187.90. Futures for the Nasdaq 100 index lost 14 points, or 0.7%, to 2,140. US stock markets closed mixed yesterday, with the Dow Jones losing 0.22% and the Nasdaq Composite index gaining 0.55%. Data on Q3 revision of US GDP is due at 8:30 a.m. ET. October existing-home-sales data will be released at 10 a.m. ET and minutes of the Federal Open Market Committee meeting held earlier this month is due at 2 p.m. ET. Hormel Foods Corp HRL may report its FQ4 EPS at $0.79 on revenue of $1.88 billion. Campbell Soup Company CPB is likely to report its FQ1 EPS at $0.84 on revenue of $2.20 billion. Guess Inc GES is forecast to report its earnings at $0.59 per share on revenue of $580.44 million in the third quarter. Hewlett-Packard Co HPQ reported its FQ4 earnings at $1.10 per share, up from $0.99 per share, in the year-ago period. HPQ reported its adjusted net income at $1.33 per share. The company's revenue came in at $33.3 billion, up from $30.8 billion, in the year-ago period. However, analysts were expecting earnings at $1.27 per share, on revenue of $32.7 billion. The company also issued stronger-than-expected projections. Negative sentiments ruled the European markets today. While STOXX Europe 600 Index has lost 0.45%, London's FTSE 100 Index moved down 0.52%. Mostly Asian markets ended in the negative territory, with Japan's Nikkei Stock Average adding 0.93%, Australia's S&P/ASX 200 moving down 1.16% and China's Shanghai Composite losing 1.95%. The dollar rose, with the US dollar index rising about 0.4%. However, gold futures for December gained $4 to $1,361.50 an ounce. Read more from Benzinga's Markets.
