Wal-Mart WMT said that it offered $2.3 billion for Massmart, South Africa's largest retailer. Massmart? Really? It sounds like a generic retailer that the Simpsons made up. I wonder if Apu is the benevolent CEO of Massmart.
Store traffic rose 6% from last year's Black Friday, as shoppers opened their wallets and purses in an effort to get the best deals. Target TGT and Wal-Mart WMT were beneficiaries of the season. I'm still hurting from getting run over by a 300 pound unidentified person who felt the need to use me as a doormat on their way to getting a toaster.
