Tesla Competitor Faraday Future Still 'Shrouded' In Mystery

Faraday Future, the electric-car startup that has been pegged over the last year as a "potential Tesla killer," still remains much of a mystery to the public.

As Business Insider's Bryan Logan explained, "For all the attention that the electric-car startup Faraday Future has gotten in the past year, very little is still known about the company."

What is known includes:

  • First Appearance: 2015 in California
  • Support: Initial support from Chinese Internet billionaires
  • Company Focus: Auto, but also tech, Internet and entertainment
  • Concept Vehicle: FFZero1 at January's Consumer Electronics Show
  • Unique Advantages: Variable Platform architecture and modular battery packs
  • Most Recent Developments: An announced $1 billion deal for a Nevada assembly plant

Increased And Unusual Secrecy

According to Business Insider, following the Nevada factory announcement, further questions began to circulate and while faraday Future executives cooperated by answering specific questions, partnering companies' stock suspensions have raise concerns.

"The Leshi stock suspension worried state officials in Nevada," Business Insider stated, "As it turns out, Nevada's concerns about the link between Leshi's suspended stock and the risk associated with the Faraday factory could be misplaced […] A Faraday Future representative told Business Insider that the moves by Leshi/LeEco were unrelated to the business of Faraday."

However, Business Insider spoke with industry expert Joe Paluska, who confirmed that the "level of secrecy is unusual."

"Nearly every Silicon Valley startup I know goes out of its way from day one to announce the executive team, the product road map, the market opportunity, and the investor team."
