Walt Disney Co DIS announced the official groundbreaking of the new Star Wars-themed land at Disneyland park in California. Disney's Hollywood Studios in Florida is also undergoing a similar kind of expansion.
The company released a 360-degree photo from the 14-acre construction site at Disneyland Park. In August, Disney said Star Wars-themed lands would come to Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort, representing the largest single-land expansion in the resort's history.
"In these all-new lands, guests will be transported to a never-before-seen planet inhabited by humanoids, droids and many others. Star Wars-themed lands will be the largest-ever single-themed land expansions at Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort," according to a post on Disney Parks blog.
According to a report on KTLA, the 14-acre project is being built behind Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, in the area of the old Big Thunder Ranch, which was permanently closed back in January to make room for the new land.
Ten attractions and eateries have been closed — some permanently, others temporarily — as a result of the construction, the report said.
Shares of Disney gained 0.21 percent to $98.84.
