• Corning Inc. GLW reported EPS of $0.46, ex-items, matching the Zacks Consensus Estimate. Revenues for the quarter rose 15% year-over-year to $1.77 billion, ahead of the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $1.626 billion

• Travelers TRV reported Q4 EPS of $1.89, ahead of Zacks Consensus Estimate of $1.67. Net premiums rose 1% year-over-year to $5.23 billion, below the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $6.163 billion. The insurer reported its full-year net income of $3.22 billion which was reduced vs. the year ago period because of higher losses in the first half of 2010

• Share prices of JC Penney JCP increased after the retailer reported closing of 6 unprofitable stores and its catalog business which will significantly reduce cost. Share prices of the company rocketed 7% to end the day's trade at $35.52 

• VMware VMW share prices fell 2.3% losing out early gains made on trade to close at $86.50, although the company reported increased quarterly profits

• Wells Fargo Securities has upgraded exchange operator NYSE Euronext NYX to a outperform rating. Share prices of the company increased 1.7% to close at $32.83
