$15,000 'Zootopia' LEGO Display Ruined By 5 Year Old

A LEGO figure was pushed over and destroyed by 5-year-old child within an hour of the opening of a LEGO Expo in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province on Sunday.

The intricate model of Nick, a character from the Walt Disney Co DIS movie "Zootopia," was almost human-size. Mr. Zhao, the artist who made the figure, spent three days and nights constructing it, according to CCT News.

The giant LEGO figure was worth more than 100,000 yuan, according to a Beijing Youth Daily reporter. But Mr. Zhao accepted the parents' apology for their son's actions, without requesting compensation. "The child did not intend to break it," he insisted.

As Mental Floss points out, this isn't the first time a child has caused damage:

  • In 2015, a young boy in Suffolk knocked over a 221-year-old jug, reducing it to 65 fractured pieces that museum curators had to reassemble.
  • In Taipei, a 12-year-old tripped and tried to brace his fall by putting a hand through a 17th century Paolo Porpora painting valued at $1.5 million.
