Get the "Friends" cast back together; I was missing the "Gilmore Girls" and Stars Hollow; Don’t forget "The Real World!"
Nostalgia seems to be trendy, and everyone and their grandmother seems to be asking for a revival of some kind. And, of course, in this world, demand creates offer — just take Nintendo Co., Ltd (ADR) NTDOY’s Pokémon GO for a recent example.
On Thursday, Viacom, Inc. VIA VIAB’s MTV announced it will rebrand its VH1 Classic channel as MTV Classic. The revamped station will air some of the network’s most popular shows from the '90s, which originally helped build the MTV brand.
Starting August 1, on the 35th anniversary of MTV’s debut, MTV Classic will air "Beavis and Butt-Head," "Daria," "Total Request Live," "Pimp My Ride," "Aeon Flux," "Run’s House," "MTV Unplugged" and even "Real World, Road Rules" and "Laguna Beach."
Interestingly, during its first hour on the air, MTV Classic will replicate the first hour of programming ever aired on MTV. This “MTV Hour One” block will also be accessible via Facebook Live, on the station’s Facebook Inc FB page. After that first hour, the channel will air a "Total Request Live" retrospective dubbed "The TRL Decade," showing some of the best "MTV Unplugged" sessions, showcasing Nirvana, Bob Dylan and Oasis, among others.
"From Beavis & Butt-head to Laguna Beach, MTV’s programming vault is a music and pop culture goldmine with universal resonance," MTV President Sean Atkins said in a statement.
