Cameron's "Avatar" will now be featured in a new epic way at Walt Disney Co DIS's Animal Kingdom in Florida.
According to io9, Cameron himself, along with producer Jon Landau and Disney Imagineer Joe Rohde, will announce the creation of the massive 12-acre attraction called "Pandora: The World of Avatar" at the upcoming D23 Destination D event in November.
"Avatar" was released in 2009 and still holds the worldwide record for global box office sales at more than $2.7 billion.
Even though the film was not produced by any of Disney's studios, Disney obtained exclusive global rights to the "Avatar" franchise from Twenty-First Century Fox Inc FOX FOXA and Cameron in 2011. The partnership is expected to expand beyond the new attraction at Animal Kingdom, and Cameron will serve as creative consultants on the projects.
"James Cameron is a groundbreaking filmmaker and gifted storyteller who shares our passion for creativity, technological innovation and delivering the best experience possible," Robert A. Iger, president and CEO at Disney said in the 2011 press release. "With this agreement, we have the extraordinary opportunity to combine James' talent and vision with the imagination and expertise of Disney."
