Under Armour
Enter Under Armour Inc UA, which has worked to steal a tiny portion away from Nike's dominate position in the sport, largely driven by Steph Curry's rise as an NBA superstar. The 2016–2017 season will be key for Under Armour, which looks to continue its momentum in the sport. The stock has traded nearly flat after the Golden State Warriors lost the NBA finals in game 7.
According to Seeking Alpha, Under Armour will start selling the Curry 3 basketball shoe when the NBA opens its season next week. The Curry 3 will sell for $140, a higher price point than the previous models. Under Armour is increasing its signature shoe line pricing, as Nike decreased their pricing to compete with Under Armour's increasing signature shoe momentum.
Nike
Nike has no shortage of new basketball shoes coming up, coming off a LeBron James and Kyrie Irving championship, the company will look to silence the up and comers with the Kyrie3, LeBron 14, Zoom KD 9 all releasing this year.
Adidas
Adidas AG(ADR) ADDYY has also been making some aggressive strides to get back to relevance in basketball. They made a key signing of James Harden last year for a remarkable $200 million. They will look to put that money to good use by aggressive pushing the Harden signature line that is set to release shortly.
The company also signed many of the newest first round picks to bolster its already impressive up and coming portfolio of athletes. Adidas has also posed the possibility of a Kanye West, Yeezy basketball shoe line that would heavily anticipated.
It looks like there will be some increased competition in the basketball shoe world when the season kicks off on October 25.
