7 Things Younger Than iPhone As The Device Prepares To Turn 10

Apple Inc. AAPL introduced its first iPhone in January 9, 2007, after 30 months of R&D – in collaboration with AT&T Inc. T’s predecessor Cingular Wireless. The smartphone featured a widescreen with touch controls, quad-band GSM cellular connectivity and data transfer capabilities, among numerous other features that were pretty avant-garde for the time.

The device went through 15 different models (counting variations like the Plus versions), and is approaching its 10th anniversary. While still young, Benzinga would like to share a look into seven things younger than the iPhone.

1. Roadster

Tesla Motors Inc's TSLA Roadster. The first electric sport scar, which would completely alter public perception of elective vehicles, commenced production in 2008. While manufacturing ceased in 2012, there are still a lot of them around, and none of them are as old as the original iPhone.

2. Instagram

The famed photo sharing platform and photo editing app Instagram – now owned by Facebook Inc FB, was released in October of 2010. It recently surpassed the half a billion monthly active users threshold, cementing its position as one of the top social media networks in the world.

3. President Obama

Barack Obama assumed office as the president of the United States on January 20, 2009. After eight years of service, he will leave his spot in the Oval Office to Donald Trump in a couple of week.

4. Netflix

While Netflix, Inc. NFLX was founded in 1997, its streaming video offering hit the market on January 15, 2007, only six days after the iPhone announcement.

5. Kindle

Amazon.com, Inc. AMZN’s Kindle also reached the public in 2007, in November. The first version of the e-reader (or e-book) sold out in less than six hours. Since then, the device underwent eight generations – including some LCD versions, shaking up the printed-book industry forever.

6. Google Android

After the euphoria generated by the iPhone, Alphabet Inc GOOGL GOOG launched its own mobile OS, Google Android, designed for non-Apple smartphones. Again, the company per se (Android) dates from before that, but the product that revolutionized the world came after the iPhone.

7. Spotify

Finally, there’s Spotify, which completely changed the way people around the globe listen to and discover music. The music streaming service debuted in October 2008. It now counts with more than 40 million paying subscribers worldwide.
