SAMSUNG ELECTRONIC SSNLF suffered a huge setback last year when multiple Note 7 devices caught on fire and the company embarrassingly pulled the plug on the product.
Many assumed the controversy would result in a huge blow to Samsung's reputation, yet industry sources are now suggesting the company thinks its upcoming feature phone, the Galaxy S8, will sell 60 million units.
Mark Spoonauer, editor-in-chief for Tom's Guide, was a guest on CNBC to talk about the feasibility of Samsung's apparent goals. He noted the sales target appears to be achievable even though it represents an increase from the approximate 48 million Galaxy S7 devices that were sold.
Spoonauer noted that many Samsung loyalists who had hoped to buy the Note 7 device have been eagerly waiting to buy the Galaxy S8. He added that his company's website is also seeing tremendous demand among consumers who generally interested in the new device.
Granted, there will be a lot of competition, especially within the Android space. However, taking into account all of the rumors circulating about the Galaxy S8, the South Korean-based company is focusing on all the right places and positioning itself to win the next round of smartphone battles.
Some of the rumors include an all-screen surface, dual cameras on the back and the inclusion of a new artificial assistant called "Bixby."
