Ford CEO Mark Fields Shares Details Of Meeting With Trump

Ford Motor Company F CEO Mark Fields was one of the select group of CEOs who visited President Trump at the White House to discuss Trump's vision of bringing manufacturing jobs back to America.

After Ford released its fourth quarter results Thursday, Fields was interviewed by CNBC's Phil LeBeau and naturally the topic of his meeting with Trump came up.

Fields said he had a "very positive" meeting with the president and reiterated a view that the company has sufficient assembly plants and resources in the U.S. to realize Trump's vision.

"Think about," Fields explained. "In the president's first couple of days in office, he has said that he is going to focus on the economy and both manufacturing and automotive have been some of his first meetings and I view that as very, very positive for the industry and the economy going forward."

Fields said Trump's goal of the meeting was to ask the executives who were present what his administration can do to generate an environment for more growth in the US. In exchange, Fields made it clear that Ford, like any other company, needs to also operate a profitable enterprise.

Fields also noted that Trump and several of his closest aides paid attention to what is missing in the current environment and a pledge was made to continue working the administration on creating policies that would support both investment and job creation.
