The Nasdaq index hit a new all-time high Tuesday of 5,689.60. The index's surge is supported by the biggest names in tech - with one notable exception.
Shares of Microsoft Corporation MSFT were trading lower by around 0.4 percent at $63.36 by Tuesday afternoon. The stock is also a Dow Jones component and the index was trading higher by 0.18 percent.
As noted by CNBC, not only is Microsoft's stock trading lower, it has given up most of its gains after the company impressed investors with another strong earnings report on January 25.
There are no notable news items that can single out why Microsoft isn't following the tech sector's lead higher.
Meanwhile, shares of Alphabet Inc GOOG GOOGL and Amazon.com, Inc. AMZN were both trading in the green on Tuesday as investors and traders appear to be incrementally bullish on the companies after their respective earnings report, which resulted in a brief selloffs.
Shares of Apple Inc. AAPL hit a new 52-week high of $132.09 on Tuesdaywhile shares of NVIDIA Corporation NVDA hit a new all-time high of $120.92.
